What to Tell Us

  • Which Russian document you need: birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce certificate, police clearance certificate, or something else
  • Which UK office it is for, and what for: a register office for a marriage, a probate registry, an immigration office for a visa file
  • Whether that UK office needs the apostille on the original or an apostilled notarized copy will do
  • Whether it accepts a translation made and notarized in Russia, or wants one made in the UK
  • A mailing address in the UK for courier delivery
  • A phone number, email or Telegram so we can reach you with the fixed price

Both Russia and the United Kingdom are parties to the 1961 Hague Convention, so a Russian document going to the UK takes the apostille route rather than consular legalisation. On this direction the apostille goes on in Russia, before the document travels — for documents issued in Krasnodar region, by the regional Ministry of Justice. Nobody in the UK authenticates it, and nothing about that step can be arranged from the UK afterwards. We apostille originals issued in Krasnodar region; for an original from another Russian region we apostille a notarized copy and translation instead, or refer you to a trusted partner in that region — tell us where the document was issued and we will say which of the two applies before you pay anything. The three documents that come up most are a Russian marriage certificate, a Russian birth certificate, and a certificate of no criminal record.

Two separate questions decide what you actually order, and it is worth keeping them apart. The first is whether the UK office will work from an apostilled notarized copy instead of the original — for marriage registration, probate applications and visa files, UK offices often do, which is what makes the whole thing possible without a trip to Russia. The second is the translation, and that one has no general answer: whether an office accepts an English translation made and notarized in Russia, or wants one made in the UK, is that office’s own decision. The UK has no register of sworn or court-appointed translators of the kind Germany and France use, so “certified translation” in the UK is defined by the office receiving the document rather than by a national standard. Ask yours before you order what it needs — in the same conversation where you ask about accepting an apostilled copy rather than the original.

Here is what we prepare. A notary in Krasnodar certifies a copy of your Russian document, a certified translator produces the English translation, and the notary certifies the translator’s signature under Article 81 of the Fundamentals of Legislation on Notaries — that is, the signature, not the accuracy. The regional Ministry of Justice then attaches the apostille. You get a signed scan by email straight away and the original follows by international courier. Reckon on 2–3 business days for the notarized translation once we have clear scans, plus 2–5 weeks for the courier to the UK. If instead you have a UK-issued document that needs an apostille for use in Russia, that is apostilled by the Legalisation Office of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office before it travels; that is not a service we provide.

Price depends on the document and its length rather than on the destination country; the standing rates are on the pricing page. Send us scans through the order form and you will have a fixed price and an honest answer on the deadline within 2 hours during working hours, before you pay anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Russian document for the UK need an apostille or consular legalisation?

An apostille. Both Russia and the United Kingdom are parties to the 1961 Hague Convention, so the consular route does not apply. The apostille goes on in Russia before the document travels — for Krasnodar-region documents, by the regional Ministry of Justice.

Will a UK office take an apostilled notarized copy instead of the original?

Often yes — for marriage registration and probate applications especially. That is what makes this possible without a trip to Russia. Still, confirm it with the specific office handling your case rather than with us.

Will a UK office accept a translation made and notarized in Russia?

That is the office's own decision. The UK has no register of sworn or court-appointed translators like Germany and France use, so 'certified translation' is defined by the receiving office rather than by a national standard. Ask before you order.

My Russian document was issued outside Krasnodar region. Can you still help?

Yes: we apostille a notarized copy and translation rather than the original, or refer a trusted partner in that region. Tell us where it was issued and we will say which applies before you pay.

How long does it take?

2–3 business days for the notarized translation once we have clear scans, and 2–5 weeks for courier delivery to the UK. The signed scan reaches you by email as soon as the work is done.

What Russian documents will a UK probate application need?

That depends on the estate and on the registry handling it, and it is not ours to answer — ask the registry, or the solicitor running the case, for the list. What we can do once you have it is apostille and translate whatever Russian documents are on it.

We are not a UK government agency and not a law firm; this is not legal advice. What a particular UK office requires, and whether it will accept a translation made and notarized in Russia rather than one made in the UK, is that office's decision alone — confirm it before you order. Apostilles on Russian documents are placed in Russia: we apostille originals issued in Krasnodar region, and for originals from other regions we apostille a notarized copy and translation or refer a trusted partner. A Russian notary certifies the translator's signature under Article 81 of the Fundamentals of Legislation on Notaries, not the accuracy of the translation.
