Technical translation from and to Italian

Italian translation

ATT – Translations offers the services of experienced and professional translators of the Italian language of various subjects and specialisations. All of them are able to perform high-quality and professional translations of standard and not-so-standard specialised texts in the field in which they themselves specialise. The main task of our technical translation company is to bring all the different specialised translators together and put them in the right direction. The next important task is to supervise the translation process and the subsequent editing of the completed translation, the so-called revision of the translation by an editor.

We have been performing translations of various complexity levels since 2001. Over these years we have participated in a large number of translation projects, many of which included Italian. Most of our translations have been from Russian to Italian, but we have had other pairs of translations: from English to Italian, from Italian to German, English and other languages. Fortunately, we have established friendly relations with several translators and translation agencies from Rome, Torino, Milano and other Italian cities, so that we can translate nearly any language pair through Italian.

In each area of specialisation, we do not strive to employ just any translator-philologist, but rather a specialist who has significant experience in exactly the right specialisation. For example, a music specialist is unlikely to be able to translate a charter or a non-disclosure agreement. A builder or a mechanic will be useless in translating an article about a toothache. In addition to knowledge of a foreign language, in this case, the Italian language, you need to possess a huge base of special terms which are necessary to use and are used specifically in the project you need. Moreover, a non-native speaker of Italian is unlikely to be able to translate into this language in a proper manner, as well as translation from Italian is better left to an English or Russian-speaking translator who can best select the term or vocabulary to clearly describe the information being translated.

What do I order most often?

If we exclude purely notarial translations of documents, the most technical orders we receive are in the field of product marking, labelling and packaging of Italian products to be delivered to Russia. Hundreds of labels of all kinds of food products or different olive oils have been translated over the years. We have also frequently translated powers of attorney and consents for legal actions between Russian and foreign nationals. Several times we have seen medical extracts from hospitals in the Republic of Italy. There were translations of multilingual instructions from English into Italian, among others. Often our citizens travel to Italy to study or work. This means that they need a certified translation of certificates of criminal records, certificates and diplomas from Russian into Italian. Also often our citizens buy real estate in this country, so they need notarised translations.

We translate Italian in the following areas:

Some difficulties in translating into Italian

As with any language, translating into Italian can be challenging due to differences in grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and cultural nuances. Here are some common difficulties that translators may encounter when translating into Italian:

  1. Word order: Italian has a different word order than English, so translators need to be careful to place words in the correct order to convey the intended meaning.
  2. Articles: Italian has two different articles (definite and indefinite) which can be difficult to use correctly for non-native speakers. The use of articles can also vary based on gender, number, and the initial sound of the noun.
  3. Prepositions: Italian prepositions can be tricky to use correctly because they often have multiple meanings depending on the context.
  4. Verb tenses: Italian has a complex system of verb tenses, and it can be challenging to choose the correct tense to accurately convey the intended meaning.
  5. Idioms and cultural references: Translating idiomatic expressions and cultural references can be difficult because they may not have an exact equivalent in Italian, or the equivalent may not have the same connotation.
  6. False friends: Italian and English share many cognates, or words that look similar and have a similar meaning, but they may not always have the same meaning in both languages. Translators need to be careful not to rely solely on cognates and to ensure they understand the nuances of each word.
  7. Formal vs. informal language: Italian has different levels of formality, and the choice of words and sentence structure can vary depending on the context and the relationship between the speakers.

Overall, translating into Italian requires a deep understanding of the language and culture, as well as a keen attention to detail and a strong command of grammar and vocabulary.

In Italy, the services of a certified translator are very expensive. Do you think it is better to translate all the documents into Italian here in the Russian Federation or do it in Italy?

    • ATT says:

Buongiorno, Semen! We can of course translate all your documents into Italian and the notary will certify the translations. But we always advise to use the service of Italian translators for submitting documents to Italian authorities. Yes, it will be much more expensive, but the problems with such translations will be much less.
